Management Challenges:
In 1987-1988 WCI was awarded the public elected officials floor. The 16th and 14th floors were set-a-side for a minority firm. WCI performed janitorial services for two years with two workers and field supervisor as back up.
In 1990- 1992 WCI’s second contract award. For which we hired eighteen (18) workers including a working supervisor. The staff was reduced by two workers; therefore, the workload for each worker was redistributed. This job has special challenges. This union shop had a number of non-English speaking workers. Our solution to this language barrier was to color code our floor plans with respect to employee, day and specific task to be performed. This worked very well and created a pleasant working relationship which still exists.
