Management Challenges:
All tasks must be accomplished within four to six hours of the conclusion of each event. From time to time, two events may be scheduled for the same day or the following day. Scope of Service: Chicago Soldier Field is a sporting and concert venue. The main scope of work consists of providing anywhere between 25 to 350 workers to provide general cleaning of the venue which holds 62 scheduled events annually, together with a few special events that WCI remains on-call for service. Managing this type of contract to successfully perform is critical and requires special skill of managing the ratio of managers to workers. WCI staffs its crew with loyal workers, together this means that workers must be thoroughly informed and trained on rules, procedures, requirements, quality and timing of performance under the contract.
The scope and nature of this contract consists of general cleaning and asset management of the venue during and after scheduled sports and concert venues. The stadium seats 65,000 people and consists of two tiers of open-air seating, a third level of seats made up of sky-boxes, two internal concourses surrounded by shops and concession stands, thirty-four washrooms, and an interior tunnel used to transport supplies throughout the facility which is WCI’s responsibility to clean. Additionally, WCI is responsible for cleaning the roadway used to transport vehicles and event attendees who travel on foot surrounding the stadium’s exterior. Excluded from WCI responsibility is the cleaning and maintenance of the venue. However, WCI provides manpower for removing and replacing sod, together with the field-protecting trap in the event of bad whether. WCI manages and supervises the work efforts of 50 to 350 workers; however, WCI can use and supply over 800 persons for concerts/special events.
WCI is responsible for restroom facilities used by event attendees, which includes initial cleaning of floors walls urinals, sinks and toilet stalls of each restroom. Attendants monitor restroom throughout the events and handle final cleaning at the close of the event. Floor Monitors: Canvass each level of the venue to keep each floor free of debris. Respond to all spills, floods and other environmental emergencies. Bowl Clean Up: Remove trash from every aisle of each section of attendee seating. Clean seats and stairways. Bag trash and transport to trash compactor or waste management truck. Field Maintenance: Cover and remove trap from field as necessary to protect from weather. Clean track that encircles field. Interior Concourses: Sweep/clean first and second floors, Breakdown large boxes left by vendors for recycling, empty large trashcans. Aggregate aluminum cans for recycling. Clean concession stand areas. Interior Tunnel: The primary travel route of stadium contractors, this tunnel transports food, wiring, cabling and miscellaneous supplies. Empty trashcans; remove skids and other contractor debris. Sweep and otherwise clean tunnel. Exterior Grounds: Travel the exterior roadway of the stadium to empty trashcans on either side. Sweep gateways and roadways as necessary. Traverse grassy areas and bushes to remove trash and any blown debris. Under this contract, WCI is a subcontractor to the client—SMG/SFJV. WCI provided SMG/SFJV with eight (8) full-time staff members, which assisted in the daily maintenance of the venue.
